about

Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda (b. 1991) is an artist and designer who lives and works in Venice, Italy.

In 2017, Brandolini d’Adda’s solo exhibition at ALMA ZEVI Venice - opened in conjunction with The Venice Glass Week – premiered his indefiniti series of sculptures. Brandolini d’Adda has also had a solo exhibition of this series with ALMA ZEVI in New York City in 2018. The abstract forms of these unique sculptures are made from blown Murano glass and hang from the ceiling with metal chains. A site-specific performance conceived by Mafalda Millies was created to coincide with the exhibition. This featured ballerina Megumi Eda whose choreographed dance amongst the sculptures was accompanied by Charles Derenne’s music. The filmed performance was premiered at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi, Venice, in 2018.

A selection of recent glass works, broadly defined as vessels, were included in The Venice Show at ALMA ZEVI Venice, Italy (2020). With this body of work, Brandolini d'Adda has developed his technique of repurposing cotissi (remnants of glass from previous firings in Murano), ensuring that his practice takes a fresh perspective on the place of glass in contemporary art. These objects surprise visitors with the vivacity of their colours and their unexpected compositions; both of which remain at the core of artist’s innovative approach to working with this medium.

Brandolini d'Adda’s artwork has been featured in Architectural Digest, Artnet News, Corriere della Sera Living. He is the founder of AUTONOMA, an educational factory in Murano (Venice) created together with the Pilchuck School of Glass (Seattle), which brings together the skills of the island and Muranese glassmaking with the creativity of outsiders. Brandolini d'Adda was also previously an artist-in-residence at Pilchuck School of Glass and has spent much of his life in Murano's furnaces. He has exhibited his work at the Museo del Vetro (Glass Museum) in Murano, Venice as well as the galleries ALMA ZEVI Venice, Italy (2017-2020) and David Gill, London (2017). Marcantonio Brandolini d'Adda runs LagunaB, a company making glassware and more, that was started by his mother, Marie Brandolini, in 1994.
